Blog Name: Fashionably Organized

How would you describe yourself?
I’m a giving person, who loves to laugh, and make people laugh. One of my favorite things is to give people gifts. I just love giving people something they would love. I’m a bit of a perfectionist, in that I want it to be exactly the way I saw it in my head. It makes craft projects hard because I take a long time doing them.

Tell us a little about your family.
I have 3 children (J – boy (7), E – boy (5.5) and A – girl (2.5)), and they are the light of my life. They are challenging me in ways I need to be challenged. My husband is currently unemployed which makes him a SAHD. Although, we are struggling right now, I couldn’t imagine anyone I’d rather live my life and raise our children with.

Who designed your blog? It was a collaborative effort.
I have very distinct design ideas, so I found the fantastic Jes of Infusion Design Studios who could work with a detail oriented, type-A personality like me. She not only got what I described to her, but made it better than I could have imagined.

How did you come up with your blog name?
When I started out blogging I wanted to blog about organizing, and great ways to organize. I wanted to demonstrate how organizing can be chic and beautiful. Like all things in life, my blog evolved to reflect all of the things I love. It’s funny looking back that the name could transcend my blogs transformation.

When did you begin to craft?
When I was a very small kid. My mom isn’t much of a crafter, but my paternal aunt was always making things. When I was old enough to drive I would drive to her house to stay for the weekend just to work on our latest craft. My college, and after college, roommate is a crafter too, and together we would make stuff, especially for the holidays. It’s just grown and grown. My dad has always been a DIYer, and I learned so much from him when it came to home projects. He is my mentor for life.

Do you sell your crafts?
No, because my crafting is more of a per project thing.

How do you find new projects?
I get a lot of inspiration from magazines and on-line. However, the most inspiration I get is from watching HGTV.

What has been your sweetest success story?
My house. When we moved in it needed a lot of work, and construction. Everything in the house reflects my design aesthetic.

How do you prioritize time with your family, projects and your blog?
My family comes first, but my craft/DIY projects are also my therapy. A lot of times I’ll work on something over the weekend or after the kids go to bed. My oldest son loves to craft, so a lot of times he’ll just hang out with me, or I’ll teach him about what I’m working on. He can’t wait to be able to work on the more difficult things.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Honestly, the only thing I want in 5 years is for my hubby to have a job, and to know that my kids are happy. I would love to stop working full time too.

What has been your favorite project?
Wow, that’s really hard. One of my favorites is the dresser I re-did for the boys. It was a great wood dresser from a garage sale. I painted it and put a vinyl decal on it. It came out so great.

Have you ever taken classes to learn your craft? If so, where?
The only classes I ever took were beginning sewing (at Sew LA), when I was pregnant with my 3rd. I took a wrap skirt class there almost 2 years ago. I wish I had more time for it.

Who are some of your favorite craft bloggers that inspire you?
Just Something I Made, Paper n Stitch, Skimbaco Lifestyle and The DIY Show Off

Share your favorite quote or inspirational thought:
I tell my kids all of the time that hugs and kisses are free.
